I am dreading next week.
Next is my ESPN Fantasy League’s draft and from the headcount, the
participants might explode to 14. That means the 14th person to pick will
likely claim a weak first round pick. So what if I get a great second round
pick via the zigzag format – at this point all of the superstars have been sent
to the other fantasy teams.
What if I draw number 14?
Last season in an eleven-man
field I finished sixth. I ended my fantasy league season having Rajon Rondo, Kevin Garnett, Kobe Bryant,
Pau Gasol, Luis Scola, Kyle Lowry, and Danny Granger joining Jose Calderon, JR Smith, Nick Young, Chase
Budinger, Darko Milicic, Kenyon Martin, Brandon Roy, and Michael Redd. On
paper, this roster is competent but I got Gasol, Lowry, Granger, Calderon,
Smith, Roy, and Young in the midseason and I had to punish myself of having
lackluster games from Paul Pierce, Kris
Humphries, Evan Turner, Wesley Johnson, DeMarcus Cousins, and an aging Tim
Duncan.
Looking back at my stats, here
is my outlook in a field of eleven.
POINTS: SIXTH
OFFENSIVE REBOUNDS: EIGHTH
DEFENSIVE REBOUNDS: SIXTH
STEALS: FOURTH
BLOCKS: SIXTH
DOUBLE DOUBLES: SIXTH
TRIPLE DOUBLES: SECOND
TURNOVERS: SIXTH
I chose Rajon Rondo to be my first round pick because of his potential to
draw triple doubles. At the start of the season I was leading. Unfortunately,
injuries to Rondo struck me as low as seventh. Duncan and Kobe also gave a
triple-doubles but they weren’t enough for me to sustain my run.
Last season, it was difficult
to put confidence on my scorers because they give little stats to give. I am
also turning my back on the aging and the often-injured. I will give reserve a
slot for three or four of my former players.
I am participating on various mock
drafts and I usually place myself in either sixth or twelfth and judging from
the results of six drafts, I noticed I keep getting Derrick Rose at the sixth and Amar’e
Stoudemire at twelfth. If I’m drafting in the Top 5, I’ll probably get
either Kevin Durant, Lebron James, Kevin
Love, Chris Paul, and Rose.
I’ll probably end my draft at
the twelfth round. This is so I can reserve a spot just in case Wilson Chandler, JR Smith, and Kenyon
Martin gets back to the NBA from China.
Game over.
