- Lassiter gets a hat trick: The Rookie Rankings
Posted by : Syd Salazar
Monday, December 05, 2011
Alaska has been eliminated and with
only a game left in their schedule, maybe it’s time for Joel Banal TO PUT JULIUS
PASCULADO IN A PBA GAME!
EVEN FOR A MINUTE!
OR LESS!
WHAT DID HE DO TO DESERVE THE
DOGHOUSE!?!
Ahem.
Welcome to the Rookie Rankings.
Game starts now!
10 SHOPINAS.COM / MAGI SISON
LAST WEEK # 10
4.3PPG • 4.8RPG • 0.8BPG
Perceivably locked at tenth
because of Allein Maliksi’s injury, Sison is doing well despite the Clickers’
dismal debut. He leads all rookies in blocks and ranks third for Shopinas in
rebounds.
9 POWERADE / RUDY LINGGANAY
LAST WEEK # 9
5.8PPG • 1.9RPG • 2.4APG • 0.8SPG
Like Sison, he is locked in the
rankings for merely playing in games on a regular basis. He is slowly losing
his minutes but whenever he gets called to action, he gives his all.
8 B-MEG / MARK BARROCA
LAST WEEK # 8
9.6PPG • 2.5RPG • 1.4APG • 1.0SPG
Tim Cone says Barroca is
fearless. He is not afraid of the odds and hell, he isn’t afraid of Tim Cone’s
wrath. Good for him because the confidence he has right now is catapulting him
to the positive direction.
7 POWERADE / JV CASIO
LAST WEEK # 6
9.9PPG • 1.9RPG • 5.5APG • 0.7SPG
Slipping a spot this week, Casio
is now averaging slightly over 24 minutes per game. This will give the top pick
more opportunities to do well with his scoring and orchestrating.
6 BARAKO BULL / DYLAN ABABOU
LAST WEEK # 5
11.9PPG • 4.7RPG • 1.0APG
He has grown to become Junel
Baculi’s go-to-guy. He ranks second in his team in points and fourth of all
rookies in minutes. One facet he needs to improve is his ability to score stats
other than points.
5 ALASKA / MAC BARACAEL
LAST WEEK # 7
11.2PPG • 3.4RPG • 1.5APG
Like I said, Baracael’s on and
off game is a trend this conference. This time though, it was on a positive
note. After last week, Baracael returned with a vengeance to perhaps end the
AFC on a high note.
4 PETRON / CHRIS LUTZ
LAST WEEK # 4
18.0PPG • 2.9RPG • 4.0APG • 2.3SPG
No one displaced Lutz last week
and while four rookies will probably get him off this spot this week, he
continues to be one of the primary contenders for the Top Rookie plum.
3 SHOPINAS.COM / JAMES SENA
LAST WEEK # 3
10.4PPG • 9.2RPG • 1.5APG
The Clickers are still winless
but Sena continues to provide a decent showing. He leads the squad in points
and rebounds. Too bad his rank will likely dip because Shopinas is out of the
All-Filipino Cup.
2 RAIN OR SHINE / PAUL LEE
LAST WEEK # 2
13.8PPG • 4.2RPG • 4.7APG • 0.9SPG
The Elasto Painters suffered a
scare when Paul Lee was led off the court following a nasty incident that
happened when the Painters faced the Clickers. Test results proved negative but
two minutes of action with zero stats is enough for Lee to give the guy on the
list a bigger lead.
1 POWERADE / MARCIO LASSITER
LAST WEEK # 1
15.2PPG • 5.3RPG • 3.8APG • 1.5SPG
Yes, for the third straight
week, the California Swagger’s all-around game reigns supreme. The question
though is for how long? The odds are against the Tigers if they face the
Texters, the Boosters, or the Llamados in a twice-to-beat contest. But hey, if
Lassiter can prove me wrong, then that would be great!
Extending the list to fifteen
are Ginebra’s Allein Maliksi, Alaska’s
Eric Salamat, Talk N Text’s Pamboy Raymundo, Petron’s Marc Agustin, and
Shopinas.com’s Mark Canlas.
With the eliminations near its
end, how will the rookies fare in the playoffs?
And will Julius Pasculado ever
see action in the All-Filipino Cup?
Game over.
