First of all, this is my main
topic.
Even when I was collecting FHM, I never thought Playboy Philippines will last. If they
show too much skin, detractors will label the magazine as smut. However, make
it a la FHM and it’s just a typical men’s magazine with a very high price.
However, they were right on the
money with this.
For some insane reason, I feel
that some personalities have monopolized the art of magazine covering. I could
have sworn that Anne Curtis has been
on this list since January.
Anyway, here are the other
magazines you’ll probably check out in the newsstands.
PLAYBOY PHILIPPINES APRIL 2012
Filipinos (all countries for
that matter) are racists. Some people will disagree and refuse this notion but
in reality we hide our racist ideologies by calling it patriotism and
nationalism. Wilma Doesnt is not
ugly. She is an international supermodel and she has kept her curves even
during motherhood. However because of her color we typecast her into roles that
initially defined Whitney Tyson.
Now look at her. EAT YOUR WORDS!!!
ESQUIRE PHILIPPINES APRIL 2012
I actually have no idea how
Esquire works. One issue they have Ely
Buendia looking like a K-Pop star and in the next they have Bianca Gonzales posing in the manner
Pinoy Big Brother fans haven’t seen before.
ROGUE PHILIPPINES APRIL 2012

stars in this Selecta Magnum-based issue. Hopefully the bad rep the brand is
getting won’t rub off on the issue.
COSMOPOLITAN PHILIPPINES APRIL

This issue got at least three
mentions on 24 Oras that week
because Marian Rivera posed on Cosmo
and people are interested on Dingdong
Dantes’ reaction. And hey, keeping true to the fact that they are FHM’s hornier
sister, they have this segment where they parade 45 guys and asking them on
their most awesome sexual feasts!

I have no idea who Divine Lee is but any person who dares
model in front of a gigantic white tiger is either fearless or clueless.
Perhaps she’s the former.
TOTAL GIRL PHILIPPINES APRIL 2012

Binene
gets a cover sighting on a Summit magazine that probably caters to the
audiences not reached by Candy and Seventeen. I have no idea how they can
segment that bracket even further.
METRO PHILIPPINES APRIL 2012
This very “flowery” issue has Shaina Magdayao posing uncomfortably. I
think there’s something wrong with her neck because it is too straight while
her head is too diagonal. Also, I can’t believe the fact that the cover is too
wordy and barely readable.
FHM PHILIPPINES APRIL 2012
For I think the third or fourth
time, Michelle Madrigal will pose
for FHM. I wonder what kind of generic beach scene with zero concepts she’ll be
in.
K-ZONE PHILIPPINES APRIL 2012
The
Avengers
is a heavily-anticipated flick! I think kids will buy this because it has
heroes and Wrestlemania talk on it. I mean, add the fact that there’s also a
free poster in it, this is like a boy’s ultimate fantasy!

their office. I bet med reps made this mag popular in the hospital crowd that
catapulted its mainstream status.

high-end magazine? How else can you explain their topics that include 285 ways
to look pretty and a travel guide to survive New York, Rome, LA, Tokyo, and
Hawaii? By the way, Toni Gonzaga
graces the cover.

Gang’s Gwen Zamora
is on the cover of this fitness magazine where they also talk about beauty
blunders and summer skin tips. I think this cover came just in time for her
movie The Witness to get plugged,

Oh it’s Anne Curtis! What a shock! I am not a hater but like I said, she
has been one of those cover monopolizers (I made this word up). Anyway as
always, this is a sex issue but fortunately it is not that highlighted.
MEN’S HEALTH PHILIPPINES APRIL

Wait… this is not a man. Or if
he/she is, what the hell is he/she doing on Men’s Health??? Don’t worry though
because this is MH’s Girls of Summer
issue with Brazilian Bench endorser Barbara
Baretto on the cover. For those “purists”, this is a dual issue because
when you flip the cover, you’ll get Enchong
Dee.
Garage PHILIPPINES APRIL 2012
Dubbed the modern guy’s guide
to style, Paolo Avelino is on the
cover with the words “Summer Fantasy” written near his shorts. One thing this
magazine is lacking right now is the understanding of the male’s psyche.
So here are the happenings
inside the various newsstands and convenience stores. If you can waste time and
money, maybe you need to grab a copy.
