As I was about to return to
work after a lunch out, I saw Manny
Pacquiao.
Well… sort of.
This guy is Manny Paksiw. He is one of those guys
that television producers, municipal administrators, and barangay officials get
when they need to have “star power” on their little shindig. Anyway he was standing in front of the Tropical Hut Hamburger outlet near National Bookstore. The last time I saw him he was at the TV5 show hosted by Edu Manzano, Joey De Leon, and Gelli De Belen among others where he was dressed up as an insect.
Anyway, it looks like boxing
will have another stain on their armor with the recent developments regarding
Manny Pacquiao and Timothy Bradley.
I don’t know if I want to see another technical brawl between Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez but I’m hoping to
see Pacquiao and Bradley go at it. I know all indicators lead to a Pacquiao
victory but there is no question Bradley will tell everyone that the decision
should have stood.
Bettors will also say this as
well… as they either run or gun the person they owe or who owe them money.
This is why boxing is nearing
extinction. MMA regards their belt as the ultimate prize while in boxing they
only care about the PPV’s draw. Yes money sells but belts make their champions
credible. This is why we have high regard on Joe Louis, Rocky Marciano, Muhammad Ali, and Mike Tyson. Telling
the people that anyone can buy a belt in Divisoria
is disrespectful to the champions of all weight divisions that yearned for the
belt.
Honestly whoever said this
could have handled the situation better than uttering a brainless comment that
didn’t help the sport as well as his reputation.
If Pacquiao should battle
either Bradley or Marquez they should fight for the sake of pride and country.
I’m going to sound cheesy and goody-goody but they need to promote it as the
best in the business and tell the media to stop pointing about the PPV buys.
Now I want to see someone
impersonating Bradley as he holds a huge ticket.
Game over.
