Hours past the Manny Pacquiao story that we saw and I
need to write, here are the best rookies of the 2012 PBA Governor’s Cup.
Pardon the lack of introductory
paragraphs. I promise to make up for whatever I lack.
Game starts now.
GOVERNOR'S CUP Rookie
Rankings
As of
June 9, 2012
10 –
MARK BARROCA / LLAMADOS
LAST
WEEK: 9
2.4PPG •
1.8RPG • 0.2APG
I was on the verge of taking
Barroca out for Gilbert Bulawan who was dead-bent on showing Ryan Gregorio that
he deserves a spot on the lineup. Bulawan?! YES! REALLY! I mean Barroca is
averaging 0.2apg! Is he not a PG?? Barroca has Johnny F’N Abbarientos as
training partner but as long as he needs to share minutes with Jonas Villanueva
and Josh Urbiztondo, I don’t if he can get a consistently great showing.
9 – RUDY
LINGGANAY / TIGERS
NEW
ENTRY
3.8PPG •
2.3RPG • 0.8APG
It probably pissed him off that
James Martinez had a spot instead of him. So he did the things that was
expected for him and not only did it give him praise… you also need to check
out the run Powerade is now having.
8 –
PAMBOY RAYMUNDO / TROPANG TEXTERS
LAST
WEEK: 7
2.8PPG •
2.0RPG • 1.3APG
Yes, Pamboy is still here and
no, he has yet to instigate a scuffle with a player that’s almost twice his
size. How Chot Reyes wishes that Jayson Castro will return to save his team but
in the meantime, Pamboy needs to level up as Jimmy Alapag’s chief relief.
7 – MAC
BARACAEL / ACES
LAST
WEEK: 6
7.5PPG •
2.5RPG • 0.3BPG
I think Baracael needs to adjust
on how to make his game work with the entries of Gabby Espinas and RJ Jazul on
Alaska’s lineup. We all know what he can do and we all know he is a star in the
making but we also know that he’s pretty inconsistent and that needs to change.
6 – DYLAN
ABABOU / KINGS
LAST
WEEK: 8
5.0PPG •
4.0RPG • 0.7APG
Hmmm… I think I can squeeze a
bit of my time to describe this former UST superstar. See what I did there?
Giving Ababou playing time should be easy… but sometimes it is not his turn.
The problem with Ginebra is they need to hand out playing time for their peeps
just like the next number on our list.
5 –
ALLEIN MALIKSI / KINGS
LAST
WEEK: 4
11.3PPG •
1.8RPG • 0.5BPG
This guy has been phenomenal
for the Kings. It looked like a buzzkill for the former D-League MVP that Mark
Caguioa will be able to play but instead of sulking, he was bent to get back
the minutes he failed to lag because he was sitting on the bench.
4 –
JAMES SENA / EXPRESS
LAST
WEEK: 5
5.5PPG •
5.0RPG • 2.0APG
Like I said, Sena’s Philippine
Cup run was not a fluke. While his team will probably get eliminated (the champ
is… not here), it helps that Sena will have a spot in the team next season. He
is getting significant minutes and respectable stats for Franz Pumaren’s
frontcourt.
3 – PAUL
LEE / ELASTO PAINTERS
LAST
WEEK: 1
15.2PPG •
3.4RPG • 3.4APG
Paul Lee dropped two spots in
the list not because he played extremely bad but there are players here that
played really well. But come to think of it, if only Paul Lee did more to stop
the damage of JV Casio and the rest of the Powerade Tigers, he could still be
on the top spot.
2 – JV
CASIO / TIGERS
LAST
WEEK: 3
9.6PPG •
2.6RPG • 6.6APG • 1.2SPG
JV Casio is still struggling
from his offense but what’s certain is his awesome transition from a scoring SG
to a scoring PG. Casio is the batch’s best bet when it comes to assist and I
bet he’s also one of the best five leaders for this season.
1 –
CHRIS LUTZ / BLAZE BOOSTERS
LAST
WEEK: 2
12.4PPG •
3.4RPG • 4.2APG • 0.8SPG
Lutz-a-Lovin is an offensive powerhouse
rolled into one defensive specialist. Is it wrong for me to see Lutz as a newer
version of Ricky Brown? Ever since he returned to score in double digits
though, Petron has been losing their games. If he wants to continue his minutes
haul, he needs to lead his team to victory.
Check out next week on how the
Power Rankings will change.
Until then, here are the season’s
rookie rankings:
1 – MARCIO
LASSITER / BLAZE BOOSTERS
2 – JV CASIO
/ TIGERS
3 – PAUL
LEE / ELASTO PAINTERS
4 –
CHRIS LUTZ / BLAZE BOOSTERS
5 –
JAMES SENA / EXPRESS
6 – MARK
BARROCA / LLAMADOS
7 –
DYLAN ABABOU / KINGS
8 – MAC BARACAEL
/ ACES
9 – RUDY
LINGGANAY / TIGERS
10 –
MAGI SISON / EXPRESS
Game over!
